Goa government launches a scheme for encouraging pig breeding

Goa has a higher population of Christians and Muslims who eat beef compared to other states in India . However with cow slaughter being banned in many states in India, or under scrutiny, beef supplies in the state are being affected.
Recently the media reported that a jeep carrying beef from belgavi to goa was seized for not having required permissions.
So to overcome the beef shortage problem in goa, the government has launched a scheme for encouraging pig breeding as pork is a good source of protein.
The pigs also breed quickly.
Incentives are being offered for pig breeding to farmers.
However this offer is only available for farmers in rural areas.
